George Strait was born on May 18th 1952 in Poteet Texas but he was brought up in Pearsall, Texas. He is son of a high school teacher. His mother left when George was in third grade taking his sister and leaving her sons with his father. At first, George was interested in rock & roll music and he initiated his interest in music by playing in a rock band in Pearsall high school. His music influences changed to George Jones, Eddy Arnold, Hank Snow and Hank Williams.
George got the chance of trying his luck in country music in an army band called “Rambling Country” while he enlisted in the army in 1971. Later in 1975 when Strait was honorably discharged from the army, he enrolled in Southwest Texas state university and completed his degree in Agriculture. During his college years he joined a band called stoney Ridge as a vocalist but later he renamed the group as “Ace in the Hole” and so the band started to play at different honky-tonks and bars around south and central Texas.
